The D-Lite 2 from Elinchrom or Bowens Studio-In-A-Box are both excellent starter light kits, although both retail at around £400. You'd then want a light meter, starting at say £80ish, reflectors (£10-£50ish) some additional stands and a frame for your background at maybe another £200. If you just have a camera you're going to want a tripod too, at maybe £100. So realistically you're not going to get much change from £1000. How much use are you going to get from all this? Another alternative may be renting, either a studio for the day or renting the equipment for a day/week.

For a cheaper alternative to Bowens try elemental they are a new company selling a fantastic kit for around £200.00 with three heads, and comes complete with diffusers soft boxs and a host of other hand bits, not the quality of Bowens, but gets the results all the same. Alternatively try Welcome to Camerent: Camera hire, Hire a camera, Rent a camera, video camera hire, Rent a camcorder you can hire various lighting or studio in a box kits from them for a fraction of the cost to buy. |
