Photo editing software

Which photo editing software do you use to add spice to your digital photographs? I use GIMP and love it. I like using GIMP to create banners, avatars and other things using my photographs.

I've heard about GIMP when I was trying to find a free software to make GIF files. Would you say GIMP is a good choice for that?

Otherwise, I resize photos with the Minolta software that came with my camera and I've also used Paint and PC Paintbrush Designer which unfortunately doesn't run on later versions of Windows.

I use Photoshop CS2. If I'm in a hurry I might be tempted to use the Kodak software that came with my camera but its not really good for much and I normally end up opening Photoshop anyway and taking more time not less. I've heard good things about GIMP from some users, starting with the fact that its free.

I did try GIMP but found CS2 much easier to use and has much more to offer, although GIMP is a very good free alternative!

I too use the GIMP. It's not just a cash thing for me either; I started out using GIMP in uni when I only ran a linux box, and GIMP was all it would run. I just haven't seen a need to change since.

However I don't do a whole lot of messing with my photos.

I don't use GIMP because it is free either although it is a nice bonus. In response to Ricardos question, yes, GIMP can make animated graphics and GIF files. There are tutorials available at GIMPtalk.com for the beginner animator. I first started using GIMP because it was available at portableapps.com as a portable software.

I ahve PS 7:0 and CS3, and find them both great. Dont like the RAW editing in cs3 though, so stick with the canon digital professional to edit the raw files then mess with them more in cs3.
